An Easy Guitar Lesson For Beginner Guitar Students

If you are looking for an easy guitar lesson than you should absolutely start with learning how to play a chromatic scale. Learning the chromatic scale will help you get used to using all four of your fingers as you play, as well as using your pick to move from one string to another. The scale contains all 12 notes of the musical scale and is a great way to build dexterity in your fingers.

What is the Chromatic Scale?

In western music, an octave is divided into 12 individual notes, or "half-steps." Picking any note to start with, Guitar Scale Mastery if you go up 12 half steps you will end up on the same note, one octave higher. All other scales and chords are made up of some combination of these 12 notes, so it makes sense to get yourself used to playing all of them.

How to Play the Chromatic Scale on a Guitar

The easiest place to learn the chromatic scale on a guitar is to start with your open E string (the thickest string, at the top of the guitar.) Place your four fingers over the first four frets. Using a metronome to make sure you keep a steady and consistent beat, play the open E, then the first fret, second, third, and fourth fret. You should use an alternating up/down stroke with your pick and make every note happen on the click of the metronome. Once you hit the fourth fret of the E string, switch to the next string up (the A string) and repeat the process.

As you progress up the strings, you will notice that the G string's 4th fret is the same note as the open B string. This means you only need to play the first 3 frets of the G string before moving up to the B, or alternatively you can play all 4 frets on the G string and skip the open B string (going straight to the 1st fret.)

When is This Scale Useful?

I like to start with a few quick runs of the chromatic scale at the start of every practice session. how to mastering guitar scale Spending just a minute on this exercise is a great way to warm up your fingers and get yourself in the right mindset to do some work - this will make the rest of your practice session more focused and productive.
